This piece is from a family of work I call Contrapunctus. This is a series of work I made in 98/99 which formed my first exploration into 'poly-motif' composition.

Read what I have to say about this particular work in my Best of Root2Art pages

1 of 10 Limited Edition

Root2Art Face mounted Prints are all sold as one of ten limited editions. Meaning of course you would be only one of ten people in the world to own a particular work in this medium.

What are Root2Art Face Mounted Prints?

Face Mounting is a process whereby the image-side of a print is hermetically glued against a sheet of UV stabilized Plexiglas using transparent silicone adhesive. Highly controlled conditions and techniques are employed during the process to eliminate any air bubbles or dust ingress between the print/Plexiglas sandwich. To further strengthen and protect the print a layer of dimensionally stable and very rigid *Dibond is hermetically glued to the back of the print before the edges of the three-layer sandwich are precisely cut and finished.

*Dibond is a layer of polyethylene with a layer of aluminum laminated either side.

Rich Colors and Enhanced Contrast gives Striking Impression of Expensive Quality

The visual effect of face-mounting is completely different from that given by holding a print behind glass using conventional means. Because with Face Mounting there is no gap between the print surface and the Plexiglas, all the light that strikes the image is reflected back through the Plexiglas without becoming defused or lost through reflection. The resulting image is startlingly dynamic with fine detail appearing crisper, colors more intense and contrasts more striking. In essence Face-Mounting brings an almost third-dimension to the print surface and a life and vitality that is unobtainable with standard framing methods.

Museum Quality Archival Medium

Face-mounting is gaining wide acceptance amongst galleries and museums as a dynamic print presentation method with good *archival properties. It is not a well appreciated fact amongst many art buyers that many modern and traditional art mediums and artworks will, and do, steadily degenerate over time. The last century sore the shocking use by artists of many experimental fugitive mediums. Conservators around the world are already having to battle to preserve many famous artworks that were made only in the last 50 years.

The materials used in all Root2Art Face-Mounted prints have been selected for there long term dimensional stability and resistance to Ultra-Violet light and moisture penetration. When kept within the *recommended hanging/storage conditions these artworks should remain without any noticeable change for 100yrs +. Many oil and acrylic paintings will have changed noticeably after fifty years and will require expensive conservation work in order to preserve them in good condition for future generations. When one stops to think about how quickly normal every day objects and materials fade, yellow, craze and peel in the domestic setting it puts the challenge of creating archival art mediums into perspective.

*Archival In this context meaning good aging properties. An archival Artists' medium is generally excepted to remain stable and unchanging for 75yrs+ in low humidity and low UV light conditions.
*Recommended hanging/storage conditions A typical dry interior domestic or office setting with no direct sun light or close proximity to heat sources.
